Whisper A Scream
by Pete Turner Whisper A Scream is a supernatural thriller with demons, cults, and time-traveling nightmares. It becomes an intense thrill-ride of suspense, seizing you until the last page, with an addictive story that falls off the edge of horror. Dread seeps into your soul as you awaken to find yourself walking down the mysterious path with Sol and cower at the sights and sounds encountered. Pray your voice is heard as you WHISPER A SCREAM! |
Solomon Noche is a therapist in the seemingly normal small town of Retselville, Kentucky dealing with displaced anger toward God after his family dies tragically. Nightmares encapsulate him where an ancient demonic cult sacrifices children in Retselville. Despite Sol’s protest, God chooses him to stop them.
This discovery thrusts him into a journey where reality and psychosis blur as a nightmarish figure torments him with riddles and time-traveling horrors. The first riddle leads Sol to unearth a preacher’s journal from the 1800’s in a secret cellar in his yard. It details Elijah Darius’ mission to stop the cult and his eyewitness account of a demon named Miyah and its demand of child sacrifices to the ancient god Dagon. The journal intertwines with Sol’s life, and guides him to expose more secrets about Retselville, and the evil hidden history of the grounds where he works.
As each riddle is solved, more horrors are uncovered including finding a sacrificial altar, a ritual dagger, and a well of children’s skulls. The closer he gets to the truth, the more sinister the secrets become as he believes all of Retselville may be part of the cult and their centuries’ old secrets.
More than Sol’s life hangs in the balance, as Miyah tempts him with unfathomable choices. But resolves his only hope is in repentance as only God can save him and defeat this demon and its’ followers. Sol confronts Miyah in its appalling, fallen form a final time, in a battle beyond Retselville and Solomon Noche, but innumerable souls.

1. Who? Who are you – tell us about yourself:
I’m not sure I know who I am still? Oh wait, seriously? Let’s say I’m Pete Turner. Writing’s been my blood. I began writing as a young boy, writing a horror novella by 7th grade. In my adolescence and early adulthood, I focused on writing lyrics and playing drums in various Christian rock bands. This culminated in 2004 with recording a professional CD with Screaming Archangel; penning the lyrics for all thirteen original songs. I’ve tried my hand in many facets of published writing - from short stories, poetry, newspaper articles, church plays, a screenplay, to Christian rock lyrics. Whisper A Scream is my debut novel. I’m a professional therapist, mediocre musician, father of four children, and husband of one wife.
2. What? What did you write – tell us about your book:
Whisper A Scream (Noche Files I) is my debut novel (well this is the 2nd edition). In short- it’s a supernatural thriller about a small town Kentucky therapist who, through nightmares, uncovers a child sacrificing cult in his hometown. It’s a non-stop thrill ride with demons, deception, and deliverance thru Christ.
3. When? – When did the idea for [title] hit you?
The idea of Whisper A Scream first began when I started a new job and moved into a small eastern Kentucky town. From an abandoned alleged haunted cottage, hidden signs in a flower garden, to the dark, sinister woods and buried house in my yard, inspiration came in many forms. However, I think the basic foundation of the story was a fictionalized concept of the reason to have a facility for troubled teens deep in the mountains of eastern Kentucky combined with experiences from my childhood church experiences.
4. Why? Why should we choose to read your book? What’s in it for us? What are we going to get out of it?
If one likes scary stories, this is the book for you. Additionally, it isn’t just blatant horror, it is a thriller/ adventure ride too which some have attributed to Indiana Jones/ MacGyver type elements. There are also elements of a mystery novel as well as a very supernatural grip not too unlike the television show Supernatural.
Therefore, readers will not only have episodes where they are scared out of their wits, but thrilled on the edge of their seat type adventure.
Above this, readers will live vicariously with Sol as he proceeds through many stages of utter grief.
5. Where? Where can someone who is interested get a copy of your book?
You can find autographed version of the novel on my personal website: www.authorpeteturner.com or order from Amazon.com, and www.TreasureLineBooks.com
6. Tell us 5 things about you or your book(s) that others may not know.
1. Whisper A Scream (Noche File I) is the first novel of the Whisper (Noche Files) trilogy.
2. Retselville is a fictional name of a real town. Retsel= Lester backwards in tribute to my late father.
3. There are parts of the novel that area based on true stories from my life. But I cannot disclose which is truth and which is fiction.
4. The original name of the novel was “Narrow The Path,” I changed the name to give it a more sinister sounding name, in which “Whisper A Scream” is a title of song I wrote many years ago about the horrors of child abuse. Coincidentally, there is a new rock band that is named ‘Whisper A Scream’ of which I have talked to once discovering. They asked permission to share the name.
5. Coming from a psychology background, I believe words, titles, names have significant meaning. With that in mind, the protagonist of the novel, Solomon Noche’s name has special connotations- Solomon- the wisest man in the world, Noche- the Spanish word for night. His name tells it all- wiseman in dreams (night).
