Can love survive the
forgetting effects of the Veil? |

The Who, What, When, Why, & Where of
S.B.Niccum & Veiled
Who? Who are you – tell us about yourself.
I was born in Rosario, Argentina; the second largest city of that country. I feel like I have to state that, because so many people get that glazed look in their eyes when they see me and try to picture me on the back of a horse drawn cart on a dirt road, going to a mud hut for school (okay, I’m exaggerating a little…maybe). I know I confuse people, because I look as gringa as the next Californian, but I’m not. I’m fifty-fifty, Italian and Spanish and I spoke no English until I was fourteen.
In Argentina, my mother made sure I took English from the time I was six years old, but I was a terrible student and used the “when am I ever going to speak English,” bit on her quite a few times. I got a reality check when we immigrated to Utah in 1989. Frustration and pride forced me to learn English as a teenager.
I would have to say that immigrating has taught me to be creative, resourceful and determined. My parents and my brothers have been a great example to me of what it takes to lift yourself up (work hard) and make your dreams come true. Their lives inspired me, to have the courage to live my own dreams—this book being one of them.
What? What did you write – tell us about your.
VEILED is a Speculative Christian Fantasy that takes place in Heaven. Tess and her clan members are gifted, unborn spirits who are training to become mortals in a brand new planet called Earth. Trained by Cherubs and Seraphs, Tess and her clan members become super-secret angels who help mortals with their problems. But as the time to cross the Veil draws near, Tess becomes increasingly worried. Will she meet her soul mate in life? Will their love be strong enough to overcome the forgetting effects of the Veil? And, is she prepared to take on the responsibility of keeping the most dangerous renegade and leader of the Fallen Angels at bay during mortality?
When? – When did the idea for Veiled hit you?
Looking back it seems that Veiled has been brewing in my head for years. Little things…experiences, stories I heard, feelings…all of these contributed to what is now Veiled. But the real idea came to me one chilly December morning as I was reading the scriptures. “Before I formed thee in the belly I knew thee…” Jeremiah 1:5, and many others that hint to some sort of ‘before life’. As I was thinking about these things, my mind made up the two main characters, Tess and Alex. They were standing before a white mass (the Veil) and they were both exited and worried because they knew that as soon as they stepped through that white mass, they would forget all about each other and this existence. I actually felt their anxiety so keenly, that I started writing right away, for fear of forgetting.
As it turns out, I wrote the ending first, then made my way forward. The story gushed out of me after that. It took me a year to get every thought down and 138,000 words later I had a lot of editing to do! I have had so much fun writing this book. It has given my mind wonderful things to think and speculate about. It has opened the door to possibilities for me; I’ve always had a very vivid imagination, and now it finally has a productive outlet!
Since I finished Veiled, I started on the sequel, “Living Soul”, which covers Tess’ life on Earth, and “Endless”; the final chapter for this series, is soon to follow. I have also had several other ideas that I’ve had to tuck away for now, but will tackle at a later time.
Why? Why should we choose to read your book? What’s in it for us? What are we going to get out of it?
Have you ever experienced déjà vu, but with people? Or have you ever met someone who you’re sure you’ve known forever? Have you ever held a newborn and gotten the distinct feeling that they just left Heaven? I have.
Veiled is not just a ghost story or after death paranormal fiction. My book is about life before life. Veiled will open up a whole new world, filled with spirits who want more out of their current existence—they want to live, they want a body and they want to feel with more than just their cognitive abilities. Out of Veiled you will get a love story…or two. And your eyes will be opened to a new possibility. What if we had a whole other life, before this one even started? Who were we? What did we do? Who were our friends, and do we know them now?
Where? Where can someone who is interested get a copy of your book?
