Who? Who are you – tell us about yourself:
Really brief version:
I read, I write, I design, I teach my children. In my spare time, I sleep.
Still brief but not too much:
I'm a stay-at-home mom to two kids, whom I homeschool. I'm in love with my kids, my husband, Regency history, and book covers (www.anauthorsart.com). I don't clean as much as I should and I watch way too much TV.
What? What did you write – tell us about your book (include other titles here as well):
Honor is the story of Connor and Verena Northwicke, two characters many of my readers will remember from Betrayal and a few of my other books. This romance is a bit different than typical romances, as the main characters marry fairly early on and the bulk of the story is about them after their marriage. This is key since the point of the story is Verena's fear of men and overcoming that fear. Falling in love doesn't make fear magically disappear. Hence the tagline: Sometimes, falling in love isn't enough.
I will use this opportunity to say that unlike my other books, Honor contains a bit more heat. This is after they're married and there are still no graphic details but it's not exactly a “closed door” either. I feel the need to issue this warning for my readers who are used to the mostly “closed door” policy in my romances.
Honor is the sixth of my books to reach publication. It is connected to the other five by recurring characters. The chronological order for my books is as follows:
Honor
Betrayal
Deception (also available from TreasureLine Publishing)
Spellbound
Heartless (currently out-of-print – to be re-released by TreasureLine Publishing)
Redemption
More details of any of my titles (including WIPs) can be found at www.jaimeygrant.com under the BOOKSHELF tab.
Two of my short stories are available in the UNLOCKED anthology, available for free from www.unlockedproject.com (not affiliated with TreasureLine Publishing).
When? –
-When did you first realize you wanted to be an author?
I'm still not sure I want to be an author. It's a talent (hello, conceit!) that I feel the need to explore. I've always been a drama queen so I suppose writing it down was a natural step to take.
My dream was to sing. Unfortunately, I lacked the “volume” to sing the way I wanted and the self-confidence to sing alone. Despite urging from two different high school choir directors to sing solos, I refused. I regret that but I'm still not sure I could have done it.
-When did the idea for Honor hit you?
I'd read a traditional Regency (that shall remain unnamed) that made me so mad! I'd come to expect a certain level of reality in the Regencies I read and that book was so steeped in fantasy (not the good kind!) that I couldn't stand it. I decided to write the story in a more realistic way (with quite a few key differences, of course; different characters & storyline, but with the eventual happily-ever-after) and what I came up with I called Angel. The first draft was completed in just under two months. This all happened about eight years ago. Several months ago, I decided to rework it and rename it Honor.
Why? Why should we choose to read your book? What’s in it for us? What are we going to get out of it?
You'll be able to waste some valuable housecleaning time, at the very least. ;o)
Seriously though, I try to imbue all my romances with a hefty dose of historical reality. If you're tired of the same old storyline from the romance genre (they meet, fall in love after people or circumstances try to prevent it, get married, THE END), then you'll probably enjoy Honor.
Where? Where can someone who is interested get a copy of your book(s)?
All of my books are available on Amazon in paperback or Kindle form, except Heartless, which can [currently] only be obtained used from Amazon (re-release forthcoming). They're also available from Smashwords in multiple formats (and just so you know, I get higher royalties on my ebooks from Smashwords than anywhere else, wink, wink). Deception can be purchased from TreasureLine Books (www.treasurelinebooks.com) and it's been reduced in price to celebrate the release of Honor.
Tell us 5 things about you or your book(s) that others may not know:
1. I never went to college. (I got married straight out of high school.)
2. I still have all the stuffed animals I had as a kid. One of them was a gift from my baby shower. (This might be a good time to mention I'm a pack rat.)
3. I'm a FABLE junkie (xbox 360 games). Even my husband thinks it's a sick, sick disease.
4. My brother is my best friend. We finish each other's sentences and know what the other is thinking without saying a word. We tell people we're twins but he's almost five years younger than me. He's the real artist in the family. (Go buy his jewelry!http://jaysdesignjewelry.etsy.com) ;o)
5. As a child, my favorite animal was cats; now it's wolves. I still dislike dogs. Strange, yes?
