Damascus Road The Corescu Chronicles Book Two by Ellen C. Maze How far would you go to protect the innocent? Giving up your life to save a stranger is one thing, but subject yourself to constant torture in an effort to save some people you've never met? This is the kind of man you'll find in Tony Agricola; survivor of Book One: The Judging. Tony will sacrifice his very blood so the town can sleep safe at night. Would you? Scroll down for Specials |
Tony Agricola is on a mission: pursue and attempt to redeem the newly-turned and ravenous vampire, Paul Black. But how do you subdue a creature a hundred times stronger than you or save one who is more than determined to remain as he is? With the help of new friend and part-time preacher, Big John Jenkins, Tony is able to convince Paul to concentrate his bloodlust on the two of them alone, leaving the rest of the population safe from his deadly kiss. But at what cost? Behaving is not one of Paul's strong points.
In danger at every turn of the vampire's whimsy, and dodging two indomitable police detectives on their trail, Tony valiantly drags Paul to Germany to confront his master, Doctor Mark Corescu, who fled humanity after the events of Book One. Before the dust settles, Hope Brannen, madly in love with the doctor, arrives and puts her fists in the fight. Vacillating between the desire to be good and the lust for blood, Mark, Paul, and Tony wrestle to the end, making the final result anybody's game.

Who? Who are you – tell us about yourself:
My name is Ellen C. Maze (www.ellencmaze.com) and I write unique and edgy vampire tales from a biblical worldview. I graduated from Huntingdon College in Montgomery, Alabama, with the hopes of becoming a clinical psychologist. Instead, I soon went into motherhood and then freelance art in my at-home studio. Fast-forward 15 years and since 2004, I have been writing vampire fiction. In 2010, TreasureLine Publishing became home to all of my writing adventures and I couldn’t be happier!
What? What did you write – tell us about your book(s):
Damascus Road is the second book in the 4-part series The Corescu Chronicles—a delightful vampire saga that follows a priest-turned-vampire named Mark Corescu and also the people (mortal and immortal) who surround him.
Book One, The Judging, has been amazingly received, garnering all 5-star reviews (23, so far) on Amazon. It is blowing folks away and sending me into fits of joy. Damascus Road is going to blow them away again—I know this from the beta-readers who all gulped this new one down in one sitting, and begged me for more immediately. “This is your best work yet,” they are saying, and I am so happy!
Damascus Road focuses primarily on two of the most intriguing characters from book one—Paul Black and Tony Agricola. Tony, a part-time seminary student and a full-time worrier, is the only one who knows that Paul is a vampire who is angry and on the loose. To protect the populace from Paul’s bite, Tony does his best to distract him, even offering himself as a reluctant replacement when Paul gets out of control. Keeping a bratty and bloodthirsty vampire in check isn’t easy, and Tony has his hands full. This book is frightening in parts, but it has more humor than the first—the relationship between Paul and Tony lends itself to some fairly humorous verbal barbs. I think people will love this installment even more than the first!
When? – When did the idea for this book hit you?
Many people ask me how I came up for the idea of The Corescu Chronicles, and I can honestly tell you that I received the idea in a dream. Yes! Two nights in a row in 2004, I awoke at the same time with the same vivid dream. The idea for the novel’s plot was all there and I wrote it down by hand at 2:15 a.m. (13 hand-written pages which I still have for when I am uber-famous and want to auction them off on ebay!). Within a year, I had written my first novel (The Judging). When it was completed, I was still hungry to write more, so I started a sequel. This one, Damascus Road, wrote itself in much the same way as The Judging. When I finished Book 2, it was 2007 and I wasn’t emotionally ready to seek a publisher. I sat down to write Books 3 (Tree of Life) and 4 (Anathema) which—God-willing—will come out from TreasureLine over the next 18 months. I am so excited to finally share them with the world!
Why? Why should we choose to read your book? What’s in it for us? What are we going to get out of it?
As noted in the What Did You Write question above, Book One, The Judging, is blowing folks away. According to the beta-readers, Damascus Road is going to blow them away again. They’ve read it and begged for more. They’re saying this is the best yet.

Tell me 5 things about you or your book(s) that others may not know or that will wow party guests/blog readers.
1. Ellen has never “planned” a novel. Her method is to sit at the computer and “let her rip.” From the beginning of her writing career, she and her husband have been convinced that God does the creating and Ellen just tries to keep up and do His story justice.
2. Ellen often cries when she writes, regularly “getting too deep into the scene.” If her bad guys work over a good guy, it can ruin her whole day. Still, she loves to write these scenes because they are the most emotionally charged.
3. Ellen has a file full of faces for her different characters. Scouring the internet, she chooses a face for each character and refers to it when she writes, even as much as to question the photo about his/her motives as she goes along!
4. Ellen is an internationally-known fine artist, with paintings hanging in homes across the globe. See her artwork and online studio at www.giddyupstudio.etsy.com.
5. In college thru 2004, Ellen trained horses for dressage, jumping, and galloping across country, and won many ribbons on her wonderful 14.2-hand Appaloosa-cross mare, Amber (R.I.P 2010).
